Brooke Henderson

Born in Ontario, Canada, 19-year-old Brooke Henderson is the next big star of Canadian golf who turned pro at the end of 2014. In the 2015 Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, Henderson set a tournament record with her 36-hole score of 135 ( -9) and finished third overall. Her performance fascinated all the fans, and she showed great promise for her future.

In June 2016, Henderson won her first major championship, at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Her final round 65 (−6) propelled her into a tie with top-ranked Lydia Ko, followed by a playoff which Henderson won with a birdie on the first hole. She became the youngest to win that major, and the first Canadian to win a major in 48 years. With her win as defending champion at the Cambia Portland Classic in June 2016, Henderson joined Sandra Post and Lorie Kane as the only Canadians to win multiple LPGA events in the same season.

Henderson played the most games of all players in the 2016 LPGA Tour, but she decided to go with a different approach this year, skipping some tournaments in order to rest and prepare for the majors.

“A lot of people didn’t think I’d get to No. 2. That’s a lot of my motivation. I’m at (14) right now, but if you think about the big picture, that’s still pretty amazing. Of course, I want to be better. Every week, I’m keeping the world ranking in the back of my mind. Hopefully, I can have some more top finishes, win a couple of times,” Henderson said in an interview earlier this year.

Therefore, at the annual Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, fans should expect to see another great performance by the Canadian youngster.
